NICO’s initiatives include several programs supporting complex systems and AI research. We currently have the following fellowship programs:
NICO Postdoctoral Fellow Program
This is a university-wide program coordinated by NICO. Fellows hold joint appointments with NICO and another research center, serve two-year terms with possible third-year renewal, and receive stipend, benefits, and research funding. The program aims to help fellows build independent, domain-focused research portfolios while developing leadership in complex systems and AI. Submission dates for applications will be posted periodically.
This program was previously called Data Science Scholars. Past scholars can be found on our Alumni page.
NICO Graduate Fellow Program
This program supports the tuition of McCormick graduate students pursuing fundamental or applied data science research in collaboration with NU faculty as a research assistant. The application process requests faculty from two different schools at Northwestern to submit a 1-2 page research proposal that describes the project and the research assistance work to be conducted by the graduate student. Applications for fall 2026 are due by July 1st. To Apply, please email your application materials to Emily Rosman.
